These terms govern your use of Rudder (rudder.build), operated by [LEGAL ENTITY NAME], [REGISTERED ADDRESS]. By creating an account you agree to them.
The service
Rudder is a backend for games: player accounts, wallets, counters, storage and modules that add game features, reachable over an HTTP API and through our SDKs. Each project has a staging and a production environment with separate keys and separate players.
Your account
- You need a working email address. Accounts are approved by us before first use.
- You are responsible for your credentials, your admin keys and your personal access tokens. An admin key grants full control of a project's data — treat it as a secret and never ship it in a game client.
- One account is one person. Add colleagues as project members rather than sharing a login.
Your responsibilities for player data
You decide what your game sends to Rudder, and you are the controller of that data. That means:
- Telling your players what you collect and why, and obtaining consent where the law requires it.
- Naming Rudder as a processor in your own privacy policy, and having a lawful basis for sending us the data.
- Handling requests from your players — access, correction, deletion — using the APIs we provide. Our Data Processing Agreement sets out what we do and do not do with that data, and forms part of these terms.
- Not sending us special categories of personal data (health, biometrics, political opinions and the like), and not using Rudder for anything unlawful.
Plans and billing
Plans differ in monthly active users only; every feature is available on every plan. Free costs nothing. Pro and Scale are billed monthly by invoice, agreed with us by email — Rudder holds no card details and charges no card. There is no automatic renewal of a card payment and nothing to cancel through a payment provider.
To stop a paid plan, email hello@rudder.build. Billing ends with the current month and no further invoices are issued; there is no notice period and no cancellation fee. You can also downgrade to Free or delete your account at any moment from the dashboard, which has the same effect.
Early-access pricing is locked for 12 months from the day you switch to it, provided you switch before 31 December 2026. After that the project moves to the base price of the same plan; we tell you before that happens.
We never block your players for exceeding a plan limit. If you go over, we email you and we talk.
Availability and support
We aim to keep Rudder available continuously, but we do not offer a contractual uptime guarantee on public plans. We announce planned maintenance in advance where we can. Support is by email at hello@rudder.build.
Your content and ours
Your game configuration, modules and player data remain yours. We claim no ownership and use them only to run the service for you. Rudder itself — the platform, the dashboard, the SDKs and the documentation — remains ours, save for the SDKs published under their own open licences.
Suspension and termination
You may stop using Rudder at any time and delete your account from the dashboard. Deleting your account permanently erases every project where you are the only owner and all of that project's player data; this cannot be undone. Export anything you need first.
We may suspend or terminate an account that breaks these terms, endangers the service or other customers, or that we are legally required to remove. Except where the law or an emergency requires otherwise, we give you notice and a chance to fix the problem, and time to export your data.
Disclaimer and liability
Rudder is provided as is. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted or error free. To the extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death, personal injury, or intent and gross negligence.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. For changes that materially affect you we give at least 30 days' notice by email; if you do not accept them, you may terminate before they take effect.
Governing law
These terms are governed by [GOVERNING LAW] and disputes belong to the courts of [JURISDICTION]. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory law of your country of residence.
